Microwave Repairin Dallas, TX
We repair over-the-range, built-in and drawer microwaves in Dallas homes. A basic countertop microwave usually costs less to replace than to repair, so call and we'll talk it through.
Safety first: A microwave stores high voltage in its capacitor even when it's unplugged. Never remove the outer cover yourself.
Common microwave problems we fix
1. It runs and the plate turns, but food stays cold
- Usual causes
- A failed magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor, or a door switch that isn't signaling correctly.
- What we check
- The high-voltage circuit and the door switches, with the capacitor safely discharged.
2. Sparks or arcing inside
- Usual causes
- Metal or foil inside, a food-stained or burned waveguide cover on the cavity wall, or chipped interior paint.
- What we check
- The waveguide cover and the cavity surface.
3. The turntable won't turn
- Usual causes
- A loose roller ring or coupler under the plate, or a failed turntable motor.
- What we check
- The coupler, the roller ring and the motor.
4. The keypad doesn't respond
- Usual causes
- The child lock is on, the membrane keypad is worn, or the control board has failed.
- What we check
- The keypad connection and the control.
5. It won't start, or the door won't latch
- Usual causes
- Worn door switches or latch hooks. A failed door switch can also blow the internal fuse.
- What we check
- Each door switch, the latch and the fuse.
6. A loud hum, buzz or grinding while it runs
- Usual causes
- A failing magnetron or high-voltage transformer can hum loudly, and a worn cooling fan or turntable motor can grind. If the noise comes with no heating, stop using it.
- What we check
- The cooling fan, turntable motor and the high-voltage parts, with the capacitor safely discharged.
7. The vent fan or light doesn't work on an over-the-range unit
- Usual causes
- A vent fan motor, a switch, or bulbs.
- What we check
- The fan motor, the switch and the light circuit.
Safe things to check first
- Take out any metal, foil or twist ties, and don't run it empty.
- Check that the child lock isn't on. The manual shows how to switch it off.
- For an over-the-range unit that's completely dead, check the breaker.
If none of these fix it, call us before taking anything apart.

Repair or replace?
Door switches, waveguide covers, turntable parts and vent fans are inexpensive repairs.
A magnetron or control board on a basic countertop unit often costs more than a new microwave. Built-in, drawer and over-the-range models are more often worth repairing, because they're costly to replace and fit a specific opening.
Microwave repair questions
Is it safe to keep using a microwave that sparks?
No. Stop using it, clean the cavity, and check the waveguide cover. If it sparks with nothing metal inside, have it checked.
Do you repair countertop microwaves?
Usually a new one costs less. Call and tell us the model; we'll say honestly whether a repair makes sense.
Can I change the light bulb on an over-the-range microwave?
Usually, yes. Unplug it or switch off the breaker first, and follow the bulb type and steps in the manual.
My microwave drawer won't open. What's wrong?
Often a control lock or a problem with the drawer motor or its track. Check the lock first, then have it looked at.
